Osteoporosis Treatment

For those who are at risk for osteoporosis or already have the disease, current osteoporosis treatments are designed to boost bone mass and prevent (further) bone loss. While calcium by itself doesn’t cure or prevent osteoporosis, getting enough calcium is an essential part of any prevention or treatment program. Making lifestyle choices, such as eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and doing weight-bearing exercises can also enhance bone strength. Several treatments you might take include:

Medication
A number of medications are available to help slow bone loss and maintain bone mass. They are bisphosphonates, raloxifene, calcitonin, and teriparatide.

Therapy
There are 2 kind of therapis you can take. Hormone therapy can help you to maintain estrogen, but it can increase your risk of blood clots, endometrial cancer, breast cancer, and possibly heart disease. As for physical therapy may help you build bone strength and improve your posture, balance, and muscle strength.

Herbs
Actually herbs for osteoporosis have not been studied extensively for the treatment of osteoporosis, but some of herbs have estrogen-like effects that might offer protection against bone loss. They are black cohos, red clover, horsetail, kelp, and oat straw.
