Foods To Prevent Bad Breath

Bad breath can cause from two causes: oral hygiene and gastrointestinal health. To maintain your oral hygiene you should at least brush your teeth twice a day, floss your teeth, and use alcohol-free mouthwash. While to keep your digestive tract right in tract to avoid bad breath you shold not consume this bad breath-causing food and eating foods that can help to prevent bad breath. The following is a list of foods that can prevent mouth odor:

1. Yogurt
Yogurt proven to lower bacteria and hydrogen sulfide level in the mouth. Both are the culprit of halitosis. Yogurt, cheese, and milk contains vitamin D which creates inhospitable environment for bacteria growth. That’s why American Dietetic Association (ADA) recommends to consume this foods if you want to prevent bad breath. Choose yogurt with active culture, not one that added with sugars or overly processed yogurt.

2. Herbs
Fresh herbs can contribute to a fresher breath. The recommended herbs are parsley, cardamom, rosemary, tarragon, eucalyptus, and spearmint. You can chew the fresh herbs or soaking them on hot water. They can also aid your digestion system as well.

3. Fiber-rich veggies
Chewing on fiber-rich vegetables can stimulate saliva to produce more. Saliva can wash the plaque and clear away any small debris of foods left on your mouth. So chew apples, carrots, and celery after a meal to cleanse your mouth.

4. Vitamin C-rich foods
Vitamin C creates a healthy environment on your mouth which limiting bacteria growth. It also prevent gingivitis and gum diseases that can also causes halitosis. get natural source of vitamin C like berries or citrus fruits instead of supplements.

5. Sugarless gum
Chewing gum also increase the production saliva. But chewing gum shouldn’t replace regular teeth brushing. Choose a sugarfree gum as sugar can be a fuel to the bacteria on your mouth.
