They’re Black And They’re Superfoods!

For all this time, dark green vegetables are believed to have more health benefits to us, but these black fruit, vegetables, and grains are rich in nutrients too. Its black colour comes from anthocyanins, plant pigments that may help lower the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Cy Lee, PhD, a professor of food chemistry at Cornell University said that black foods have more anitoxidants than light-colored foods because of their high pigment contents. So what are these black superfoods?

Black Rice
Black rice has higher amount of vitamin E than brown rice. Vitamin E bolsters your immune system and protect cells from free radical damage. Black rice even contains more anthocyanin antioxidants than blueberries.

Black Lentils
One cup of black lentils contains about 8 mg of iron to the 18 mg daily needs for women. It is also high in soluble fiber, which lower your cholesterol and improve your immune function.

Blackberries
Blackberries high in fiber and also contains polyphenols that may help to reduce cognitive decline in older age by cleaning up cells that impair brain function.Black Beans
Black bean’s skin contains bioflavonoid that may protect against cancer.

Black Soybeans
Eating black soybeans helps to reduce the risk of thrombosis, a type of blood clot, more than yellow or green soybeans. All soybean oil contains alpha-linolenic acid, a type of omega-3 fatty acids that may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Black Tea
Black tea contains theaflavins, a form of antioxidants that may improve recovery from muscle soreness after intense exercise. Drinking black tea regularly may also lower the risk of heart attack.
