Diabetes mellitus or also known as diabetes is a metabolic diseases when a person has high blood sugar, can be happen because the person’s body doesn’t produce enough insulin or because body cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. The classical symptoms of diabetes are frequent urination, increased thirst, and increased hunger.
There are 3 types of diabetes mellitus:
1. Type 1 diabetes
In this case the person needs to inject insulin because their body fails to produce insulin. It cal also referred as insulin-dependant diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or juvenile diabetes.
2. Type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body’s cell become resistant to insulin that is being produced, and sometimes combined with an absolute insulin deficiency. They also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or adult-onset diabetes.
3. Gestational diabetes
On this case, pregnant woman suddenly have high blood glucose level during pregnancy although she never had any diabetes before.
All of these forms can be cured by the injection of insulin and type 2 diabetes can be controlled with medications. And type 1 and type 2 are chronic condition that cannot be cured. Adequate treatment for diabetes is very important, and also controlling blood pressure, quitting smoke, and maintaining healthy body weight.
